1907, The Riviera by William Scott / First Edition collection A&C Black London / Beautiful Art Nouveau Binding / With 75 Full Colour Plate Paintings

This is an absolutely beautiful antique book being a first edition from 1907: The Riviera published to the usual high standards to be expected of A & C Black of London. With 75 exquisite colour plates painted and described by William Scott, each with their original tissue guard (see photos) and with a gorgeous Art Nouveau binding. Also has a fold-out map at the back.

Contents: The Sunny South; A Backward Glance; Some People One Meets; Culinary Chit-Chat; collection La Cote d'Azur; Ventimiglia to Savona; Savona to Spezia.

Contents are excellent for a book of 115 years old. The pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. With no writing or markings of previous ownership. The top edge is gilt. All of the plates have their original tissue guard with the title of the painting and a short description. The tissues are also excellent with no tanning or foxing. There are no cracked hinges and the binding is good and tight.

The blue cloth covered boards have delightful decoration. This is all in good order again with very little sign of wear.

The spine has tanned a little and there is a small amount of rubbing to the cloth at the head and tail. The gilt titles have remained bright. Looks extremely eye-catching on the antique bookshelf.
