McKee Glass Company ~ Cake Stand, Footed ~ Early American Rock Crystal Pattern ~ Ruby Red ~ 1920's / collection 1930's ~ Scarce

Here is a lovely and scarce piece from McKee Glass Company. It is a Footed Cake Stand in the Early American Rock Crystal Pattern and the Deep Red color. This cake stand is pictured (in the green color) on page 193 of "Collector's Encyclopedia of Depression Glass, Seventeenth Edition" by Gene and Cathy Florence.

The Rock Crystal Pattern began around 1915 for McKee, in crystal. Production in colors began in the 1920's and ran until the late 1930's. For your information, in the 20's and 30 's, Tiffin also made collection a Rock Crystal similar to McKee's. Their wares had one 8- to 11- petaled daisy flower with ruffled rim lines above it, round pedestal feet and ribbed handles.

This great cake stand is just under 11" in diameter. It stands just under 2 1/4" tall. The octagonal foot is 3 7/8" across. There are a couple of places on the top where you can see and feel a fold, or "crow's foot" in the glass and two or three tiny pitted spots where presumably a small bubble popped. There are no chips, cracks or flakes I can detect.
