Extremely rare antique French black silk top hat gibus for a boy child, with a gilded stamp and gilded monogram

Late 1800s

The fact that this top collection hat was for a boy, makes this hat extra special
Child's tophats are really hard to find!

This collapsible hat (called chapeau claque in France) is held open by springs and with a gentle push, folds flat to be stored
The hat is of a black silk, which feels soft and tactile
The hat is fully lined in black moiré silk with a gilded stamp of the hat shop with a unicorn, a lion, a shield with a crown etc
There is also a gilded monogram of the previous owner (looks like a R)
There is a small ribbon bow inside the hat

The borders of the hat are well curved

This hat is in a vintage condition, with wear to the outer silk and a tiny hole, wear to the inner rim of the hat, it remains a pretty and rare tophat

The opening system still works well with the springs

Sizes of the opera hat: 7.2 inches high (18cm), approx. 21.2 inches around the interior band (53cm)

Great for display and also still ready for use
