PRINT INFO
My prints come in these standard sizes to fit most frames. There is a white border around the picture for easy framing.
Each limited edition print is signed on the front. On the back is the title of the work, the print number and another signature to verify its authenticity.
When finding someone to do my print reproductions, it is important to me to support local business. My prints are made to order in collaboration with a local, family-run business. Their work is of the highest quality. First they photograph my work, then they colourmatch it to the original and finally they print using archival pigment inks on smooth, cotton-rag fine art paper, or onto stretched canvas.
THE BLING CHICKEN STORY
Bright, fun, funky and cool - Say 'hello' to Gina, The Bling Chicken! Gina hangs out in the elite Western Suburbs of Perth. She's a fabulously rich bird with a penchant for shiny trinkets and a very blingy sense of style! (Think Dame Edna!) She's very fortunate that those rich types just throw away this stuff in the trash, coz there's nothing she loves more than a treasure hunt!
The concept of the 'Bling Chicken' came to me several years ago, but I have only now started to actually make it come to fruition. I was just playing around with the words ‘Bin Chicken', and then the thought occurred to me that ‘Bin' and ‘Bling' sounded very similar, and that with a huge dollop of irony, I could create something truly awesome out of it! Thus Gina, The Bling Chicken was born!
To create her, I first sketch out a rough image of what I want and then using a high flow acrylic paint, I spread the paint using a silicone paint scrapper, or whatever straight edged thing I have lying around...sometimes a ruler or even a piece of cardboard! I then start adding a bright, fluro watery, high flow paint to the canvas, which I spread around using a palette knife. As it dries, you don't really know what to expect, but you can always add in layers later. After most of the painting process is done, I can then start using pen, pencil and pastel to create the detailed sketching - usually late at night after the kids have gone to bed! It's very relaxing!
THIS BLING CHICKEN… Covid Comes to Perth'
I painted this Bling Chicken at a time when we were getting our first proper exposure to Covid 19. We didn't really experience Covid in the same way as the rest of the world, as the Western Australian government locked us down early in the piece, and have had a ‘hard border' until a couple of months back, this year, 2022. Since then, we have learnt how to deal with Covid in our community, daily rat-testing, masks and a fairly limited curbing of freedoms. It could've been worse! So I guess, this particular painting is about us as Perth people, accepting and navigating our new reality.
PACKAGING AND SHIPPING
The print will arrived wrapped in acid-free tissue paper, and rolled in a postal tube. When removing from the tube, have clean, dry hands and avoid using your nails. Gradually pull the print out without tugging at just one spot for too long. Once free, unroll gently and with the acid-free paper still on the face of the artwork, lay the print face-down. Apply clean, soft, folded towels to weigh the print down until it stays flat.
In order to smoothly run this business, I 'print to order'. Allow 2 - 5 business days for printing and processing, and then 2-3 weeks for shipping. At busy times, this process may take longer. Delays in shipping may also occur due to Covid 19. Please check your tracking number and keep on top of your item's progress. If you haven't received your artwork after 3 weeks (Australia) and 6 weeks (Internationally), then please contact me.
Outside Australia, you may be responsible for import taxes imposed by the country where your item(s) is received. It is important that you first check with the relevant customs authorities of the country you are importing into, to find out if you are liable to pay these additional charges in order to receive your goods. As we send these items DDU (delivery duty unpaid), the price that you pay at checkout does not include these import duties. Unfortunately we have no control over these import fees (known as GST, Levies, duties, entry, administration, storage, inspection, etc), and we are not liable to pay them. The fees have been applied by the government of the country you are importing the product into, and are therefore your collection responsibility. We take no responsibility for any additional import taxes or duties that you may be required to pay outside of Australia.
ABOUT ME
I live in a small town called Bassendean, on the banks of the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia. I'm a busy working Mum of two, and when I'm not working my day job as a nurse, I am creating cool and funky artwork to sell online, in shop or at the markets. Words often used to describe me are ‘crazy', ‘mad', ‘fun', and ‘a complete nutter' – I take these as compliments and I feel that my ‘Bling Chicken' artworks are a true reflection of my character! I guess I love anything fun, funky, cool, bright, modern and urban.
