The word, “pashmina,” is typically used in the U.S. as a synonym for scarf but the word actually originates from Kashmir. And unlike the synthetic pashminas flooding the U.S. market, real pashminas are made of wool from the Changthangi goat—a variant of cashmere. Regular wool scarves can be thick and bulky but the hallmark of a real pashmina is that it is light weight and, yet, warm. Of course, embroidered pashminas weigh slightly more than the unembroidered variety.
